City of Heavenly Fire Review

City of Heavenly Fire (The Mortal Instruments, #6)City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

*Really short quick review*
So I finished this a few days ago and decided to take some time to actually write a proper review, not let the fact that the series is over to waver my opinion.

Personally, I did like the book. It was a little dragged out in places but it was a good ending to the series. What needed to be addressed was in this book. It concluded the series in a way that left me not only wanting to keep reading, but left me knowing the characters that lived have a journey to carry on, that their excitement and adventures aren't over now that everything is finished.

What I didn't like was the jumpiness. It went from one place to another very quickly and there was so many characters POV. It was lacking details in certain areas and there was an overload of details in others.

Overall a good book, good read and a great conclusion to the series

*Another post coming soon on here about the book. Just give me time okay?*

Throne of Glass

Because I've recently just bought the paper back version  of The Assassin's Blade (below left) [here's the GR page and what not] I thought I'd recommend Sarah J. Maas's Throne of Glass series!

           (#0.1-0.5)                                  (#1)                                   (#2)                                   (#3)

Book number three 'Heir of Fire' is being released in September of this year AND I CAN'T WAIT OMG INTERNALLY SCREECHING and I think it'll be heartbreaking good.

Throne of Glass is the first book in the series, followed by Crown of Midnight. The paper back version of The Assassin's Blade was released earlier this year (from what I know that's when I knew it was coming out).

I haven't started TAB yet but I know it's meant to be wonderfully amazing. The next two books (centre) are really f@*$%!& great and you should all read them.

I feel like these are hidden treasures. Not a lot of people have read them but the people who do usually always fall in love with them.

Enough ranting you want to actually hear about the story of the book? BLURB TIME!
(ToG blurb cause we can't have you reading the back of any other book first now can we?)

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom.

Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another.
Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

Book suggestions

I might as well do it now...

OKIES! So I'm having HUGE James Dashner feels lately so I think you should all go read

  • The Maze Runner series
  1. The Maze Runner
  2. The Scorch Trials
  3. The Death Cure
  4. The Kill order
  • The Eye of Minds
Because I'm silently dying because of these books lately. And yes he's my author crush atm.... Can't help it.. He writes really well

So you should all go read ANYTHING by him and enjoy it.
What I will say (and one of the biggest reasons I love his books so much) is that both books have a male protagonist and don't really focus on the love story (from what I've read so far anyway I haven't finished TMR yet but I like that about both; romance isn't as important as surviving. I think that reflects who I am though... OH WELL!

My other ALL TIME AUTHOR CRUSH is Jennifer L. Armentrout (or J. Lynn) because she is amazing and writes girls in such a way that shows them needing to be strong alone without other people as well as needing people to survive; she shows that people need both to really live. And I think that's real; it makes them seem more real, more human. She does have romance as a major theme in her books but it's done the right way (meaning that it isn't "OMG I LOVE YOU I CAN'T SURVIVE WITHOUT YOU HELP MMMMEEEEEEEEEEEE" it's more like "I'm so in love with you that you make me forget my thoughts and make me want to be better and stronger and everything else but I don't want you to be protecting me 24/7 I want to be able to do that myself "{do I even make sense...})
Anyway, I really love her books and enjoy reading what she writes 'cause she's a very real author to me; she isn't just writing what she thinks should happen or be said, she writes what a person would do and I can't even explain it... Her work just makes me happy and want to stop time just to read everything she's ever written.
As you can tell, my author crush on her is a little deeper and weirder than Dashner's... Oh well she's kinda amazing. But books by her I think you'd all enjoy are:
  • The Covenant series
  1. (0.5) Daimon
  2. (1) Half-Blood
  3. (2) Pure
  4. (3)Deity
  5. (3.5) Elixir
  6. (4) Apollyon
  7. (5) Sentinel
  • The Lux series
  1. (0.5) Shadows
  2. (1) Obsidian
  3. (2) Onyx
  4. (3) Opal
  5. (4) Origin
  6. (5) Opposition [Coming soon meaning it isn't written/released yet]
  • Wait for You
  • Trust in Me
They're the same story in different point of views listed in order of how they came out.
Oh and if you really fall for Armentrout like me, her newest book (Be With Me) is coming out on the 4th of this month (exCITEMENT LEVELS A R E GIONG CRAYZ AHHHHHHHHHHAGVAHSBDGAH)
She has another series (The Dark Elements) but I haven't read them so I can't really recommend I've never read but if you feel like it, check them out too. I'm sure they're just as amazing as the others.

I think that's enough books for you all now. I hope that if you do read any of them, you enjoy just as much as I did and currently do.

Throne of Glass

It took me longer than i thought to finish the book (Gods having to deal with family, friends, boys, sport etc. is very hard) but I finally finished it! *yay for me* Anything that's like this is a 'could-be-maybe-I-don't-really-know-but-probably-is' spoiler. Also, where I talk about the characters will probably be spoiler-ish. You have been warned!

Title: Throne of Glass

Author: Sarah J. Maas

Goodreads: That is moi

Blurb: (There was three, so this is the one from the link above but the linkHeRe and Here! has the others. There might be more, I'm sorry I'm not bothered checking)
In the dark, filthy salt mines of Endovier, an eighteen-year-old girl is serving a life sentence. She is a trained assassin, the best of her kind, but she made a fatal mistake: she got caught.

Young Captain Westfall offers her a deal: her freedom in return for one huge sacrifice. Celaena must represent the prince in a to-the-death tournament—fighting the most gifted thieves and assassins in the land. Live or die, Celaena will be free. Win or lose, she is about to discover her true destiny. But will her assassin’s heart be melted?

Book Cover: (the version I had)

Celaena is the main character and, even if a bit of a bitch sometimes (which is expected{come on she was a slave and the back story! GAH!}), she's an amazing protagonist. She's stubborn and is a real person, with faults, confusing emotions and one hell of a back story. Everything that happened to her in her past, that happened during the book, you can feel yourself wishing to take all of it away, even when you want to punch her for being an idiot. Dorian and Chaol are the next main characters, and wow. Both have faults, bad(stupid) ideas and sometimes talk crap. But they're awesome.

The plot to the story draws you in, and you can't help but stay up 'til 4 am reading it just to see what happens. Well, that happen to me anyway. I couldn't help but fall in love with the way the story was/is told. Everything just worked well.

The story is told in third-person narration, sticking to Celaena for the majority of the story, but we get glimpses of Chaol, Dorian and even Kaltain. I can't remember if anyone else is used but they're the main characters,  so it doesn't really matter anyway.

Kaltain is one of those 'Ladies' or something and she gets on my nerves. She just can't leave happy people alone! Gah I can't stand her. She's such an annoying, deceitful, manipulative person who thinks too highly of herself. These aren't really spoilers, it's my opinion from my first encounter with her that just escalated throughout the novel, but if you think them as spoilers, sorry didn't mean to do that!

Duke Perrington and Cain are being put in the same category. Evil, horrible and just plain icky. Yes all that was needed. I never liked them, and you won't too (I think anyway. Unless you like that type of people..?) Though are different yet the same, I couldn't help but have conflicted ideas about them. Perrington is horrible, but it's not all his fault. He is trying to forward himself in more ways than one. Cain grew up being from the place I can't name so he's gonna be evil.

Chaol is... Chaol. He's perfect. He's arrogant(in a way) and so nice at the same time. You can tell when he cares about something and he's protective and funny. I don't even know how to talk about him without my heart breaking because of feels.  He's brave and willing to do things even if he shouldn't. He can take Celaena, Dorian and anyone. Basically, I love him. And I hope he gets with Celaena.

Dorian. I actually don't know how to describe him. I can't decide if I like him or not. He's sweet but cold, and he kinda annoys me. Like yeah, woo he's a prince, and blah, but there's just something I can't actually like about him. But I like when he's happy and don't want him to be hurting at the same time. I know, I make little sense.  But I think there's something bubbling in there.. Maybe some tragic event, or great show of bravery? I hope so.

Finally, Celaena is one amazing badass. No other words for her. She's brave, tough and can see the bigger picture when making horrible decisions. I love her, and the fact she's blonde. Yes, a badass assassin is a girl with long blonde hair, who is pretty and wears dresses. SUCK IT. I think that's another reason why I love this book so much; the main character is a woman who usually would be expected to be a 'lady' and act all shy, flirty, and get a husband and listen to men but she's like 'shut up you're an idiot. Leave this to me, you couldn't do shit.' and I love her for it! Like, she shows her emotions, tries to overcome them and grows so much. Basically, Celaena is the best protagonist I've read in a while.

The next book is called Crown of Midnight and that's the Goodreads page for it. I can't wait for it because there's something brewing and it'll be the best thing to happen because it'll be filled with excitement and ahhh.

Yeah I can't write reviews, I suck at it. I suck at explaining things to people. Soo... Yeah.. Later my angels

The Fault In Our Stars

So this is just a basic review of TFIOS because I started to reread it today and my heart shattered again. There might some little spoilers but nothing to give away the ending or anything.

Title: The Fault In Our Stars

Author: John Green

Link to Goodreads page: Here

Synopsis: Despite the tumor-shrinking medical miracle that has bought her a few years, Hazel has never been anything but terminal, her final chapter inscribed upon diagnosis. But when a gorgeous plot twist named Augustus Waters suddenly appears at Cancer Kid Support Group, Hazel's story is about to be completely rewritten

Book Cover:

So this is book about a girl with cancer(but NOT  a cancer book), and the tests that everyday life (for a teenager with cancer) causes her. It's not a sci-fi fantasy book, or is it full of gore, or all the mushy-romantic stuff. It's just a book, about a girl living in our own world.
The book is written in first person, with Hazel as the person. We see everything through her eyes and perspective. At the beginning, I didn't actually like Hazel, she seemed a bit too 'the world is evil and I don't want to take part in it or help anyone else'. But, in chapter two or so, I was as madly in love as a straight girl can be with a fictional straight girl with Hazel.(understand?)
We meet Augustus Waters very soon (which I love) and we see the two interact (so no admiring-from-a-distance [thank god]). As the story unfolds, we see the how Hazel reacts to the simple idea of liking someone other than her parents and the few people she considers friends.
The magicality of the story is amazing. It's set up and written with language that we would use ourselves. The characters are so life-like and realistic, that we can't help but think 'these could be real. Like these people could be alive', even though we know it's a fiction story.
As the two fall for each other and begin to express their love, BAM! PLOT TWIST THAT WILL KILL YOUR SOUL
It's a great book, a total must-read, but have tissues ready, they will most likely be needed.

So that's a long-but-basic review that i hope you find a little helpful. Sorry if it's terrible, gimme a chance please!

For now my angels,
~Ari
